Stephanie was recently seen in The Gospel at Colonus at Little Island, where she made history as the first woman to portray both the Preacher and Oedipus. Other recent credits include Aunt Ester in Gem of the Ocean at Two River Theater, Staff Meal at Playwrights Horizons, Malvolio at Classical Theater of Harlem, and A Bandaged Place at the Roundabout Theatre.

Her versatile repertoire spans diverse roles—shifting seamlessly through different ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and emotional depths. Notable performances include Faye in Skeleton Crew at Baltimore Centerstage, Louise in Seven Guitars at Yale Repertory Theater, Mrs. Breedlove in The Bluest Eye at the Guthrie Theater, Katharine in Mothers and Sons at Cincinnati Playhouse, and Adelaide and Aunt Glo in Wild With Happy at Baltimore Centerstage. Stephanie thrives on breathing life into multifaceted characters across the theatrical spectrum.

In Iced Out Shackled and Chained at the National Black Theatre, she explored the roots of internalized oppression among African Americans, embodying an enslaved character from the 19th century and then morphing into characters in the here-and-now—exposing the common threads we didn’t know exist . Her roles in Trouble in Mind at Milwaukee Repertory Theater and Fences at Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Arden Theatre were fueled by her deep understanding of the African American woman’s journey—stories of resilience, survival, and creative resistance.

Her extensive work in regional theaters across the country encompasses a wide range of genres, including roles as The Fool in King Lear at Portland Stage, King of France and Mistress Quickly in King Henry V with Classical Theatre of Harlem, and Zora Neale Hurston in The Tale of Madame Zora at Ensemble Studio Theatre.
